Editorial Policy

MTGEDH publishes Commander (EDH) tools and educational content. This Editorial Policy explains how we approach recommendations, how we handle conflicts of interest, and how we maintain trust.

1) Our goal

Our goal is to publish content that is:

  • Accurate and clear
  • Practical for real deckbuilding and gameplay decisions
  • Appropriate for a range of Commander play styles, from casual to competitive

We prioritize usefulness and transparency over hype.

2) How we create and review content

We use a combination of research, gameplay knowledge, and tool-driven analysis to inform our articles and recommendations.

Depending on the topic, this may include:

  • reviewing official rules sources when rules interactions are discussed
  • comparing multiple viewpoints from established MTG community sources
  • using our tools to evaluate consistency, mana curve, and role balance
  • validating claims with examples or clear reasoning

We do not claim that any single recommendation is universally correct for all playgroups. Commander is highly contextual.

3) What “best” means on MTGEDH

When we use terms like “best,” “top,” or “recommended,” we are describing performance within a specific context. We aim to state the context clearly, such as:

  • budget constraints
  • power level (casual, optimized, cEDH)
  • archetype and commander identity
  • metagame expectations (interaction density, speed, common strategies)

4) Product mentions, monetization, and independence

MTGEDH may include:

  • references to products, services, or marketplaces
  • links to third-party sites (including retailers)
  • pricing estimates based on external sources

If we use affiliate links, we will disclose that on the page and/or via an Affiliate Disclosure policy.

Regardless of monetization, our editorial intent is:

  • to recommend options we believe are useful in the stated context
  • to distinguish between objective factors (e.g., rules text, deck constraints) and subjective preferences (e.g., aesthetics, playstyle)

We do not accept editorial direction that requires us to publish claims we do not believe are accurate.

5) Sponsored content

If MTGEDH publishes sponsored content (now or in the future), it will be clearly labeled. Sponsorship does not guarantee positive coverage, and we aim to keep sponsored arrangements separate from editorial conclusions.

6) Tool outputs and editorial content

Some MTGEDH content may be informed by tool outputs (e.g., curve analysis or synergy identification). Tools can improve consistency and provide structured insights, but tool outputs:

  • rely on available data and assumptions
  • may not reflect your playgroup or local metagame
  • may produce different results as the tools and data evolve

When a tool limitation materially affects a recommendation, we aim to note it.

7) Conflicts of interest

We aim to avoid conflicts that reduce trust. If a material conflict exists for a specific article or recommendation, we will disclose it in or near that content.

8) How to report issues
